Beach Approach
Beach Approach
Our beach approach technique features drilling from land out to sea. To install conduit, designed to receive ocean utility cables. This study explores the third ECI project on Long Beach Island, New Jersey.
Environmental Crossings, Inc., of Traverse City, MI, put a pipe conduit across Long Beach Island, New Jersey, which now holds a Transatlantic fiber optic cable stretching from England to Tuckerton. ECI installed the pipes running into the ocean and into the bay, and from there, another company brought the cables in from a cable-laying ship offshore.
Environmental Crossings has done two other directional drills in Beach Haven. One, a couple years ago on Leeward Avenue, was for a Telebermuda cable that runs to Toronto.
This project at Taylor Avenue is subcontracted by Alcatel, a British firm with offices in the United States.
ECI followed an approved method where Transatlantic cables are brought into land from the end of a pipe offshore. A key consideration in this type of project is not disrupting the fishing industry or residents. With this in mind, drilling took place under the ocean floor following a specific path, and crews worked both sides of the island. Because of this, ECI was able to finish the project faster than normal, disrupting residents as minimally as possible, and clearing the area before the start of tourist season.
Environmental Crossings is a company that specializes in this type of construction. As early as 1995, the company made an effort to get involved in communications since they expected a significant increase in this type of construction; their prediction has held true.
